II. Old Business
Lifestyle Essentials’ Monthly report as noted in the packet
III. Director’s report
· Communities in the NRBL youth basketball league have been approached by a new league asking everyone to join the Cincinnati Premier Youth Basketball League (CPYBL). The communities would pay $75 per team, up from the current $6 per team. The league would do all gym scheduling, and referee and clock-keeper scheduling. Additionally, the CPYBL would also re-arrange teams periodically to maintain competition levels among teams. Wyoming has already decided to move its teams to the CPYBL; the other communities are struggling with the decision but an
answer is due soon. David hopes to know more at next month’s meeting.
· The RFP for pool operations and the RFP for the fitness center operations will be let out on October 20th. Companies, and individuals, interested in bidding may pick up a copy at the Administration office starting on that date.
· A few items have been budgeted FY2015 for the Bike/Pedestrian project. The focus will be along the Mill Creek section and towards Summit Park in Blue Ash.
Phi Lambda Pi report – no report given this month.
Open discussion
· The Evendale boys’ tennis team won the 2014 NETL league championships.
· Attendance numbers at the pool were down, probably because of this summer’s weather. Part of the FY2015 budget includes monies to add a few features in the wading pool area. This area does not get much use (possibly due to the zero depth area of the main pool). Another option for the wading pool area is to create a splash pad area but this would be an extreme expenditure.
· The LED marques for each entrance to the complex are still in the design works. Council is awaiting the new revised drawings. The plan is to have just one or two line announcements/reminders; but we will have an option for graphics. The old board at the Glendale Milford entrance still needs to be taken down. Bill Puthoff will remind the appropriate person(s) of the issue.
· The new open air shelter should be ready by the end of October, 2014.
· A question was raised to the possibility of adding a level to the annual membership fee which would include “unlimited” fitness classes. Pros and cons to both sides (patrons needing to buy punch cards; the department paying for an instructor to be here for one or two people or maybe even no one). Should the department look into becoming a Silver Sneakers location?
· The question was asked if Swim Safe Pool Mgmt. has changed policies about cleaning the pool. A visible ring of what seems to be mold was growing around the edge of the pool. The bottom of the pool seemed to be dirty also. The men’s and women’s bathrooms still have cleanliness and smell issues. David will be meeting with Cary Belyea from Swim Safe Pool Mgmt. to review this last year’s operation, tasks to be done, etc. David asks for members to send him anything that needs to be noted during that meeting. Georgia’s son goes to the Montgomery’s pool which is also
managed by Swim Safe Pool Mgmt.; and they had similar issues this season.
· Is there a better way to get the word out about our Recreation Department? Some people only read the newsletter once then forget. Direct mailings, open house with program demonstrations, email notifications, other ideas?
Meeting adjourned at 8:34am.
